Details: Szijjártó stated that during the talks in the Kremlin, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán "once again confirmed that Hungary stands on the side of peace, that peace is in Hungary's interest".
"Hungary has already paid a very high price for this war, to which we have no connection, so we want this war to end as soon as possible," the foreign minister noted.
He added that Putin "has assured us that if there is a 'peace summit', it will undoubtedly take place in Budapest".
Szijjártó also said that Hungary has achieved another goal of the negotiations: Putin "has assured Prime Minister Viktor Orbán that Russia will fulfil its contractual obligations on supplying natural gas and oil in the agreed-upon volumes".
Background:
- Orbán said he was travelling to the Russian capital to secure affordable energy supplies for Hungary for the winter and the coming year.
- At the meeting in Moscow with Putin, the Hungarian prime minister once again said he hopes that Budapest would become a platform for peace negotiations on the Russo-Ukrainian war.
