Reuters reported the information.Ukrainian officials are actively seeking to restart suspended prisoner exchanges with Moscow, aiming to secure the freedom of more than 1,000 Ukrainians currently held in Russian captivity.President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed the diplomatic offensive on Sunday, highlighting the administration's focus on breaking the deadlock that has made swaps sporadic since the war began."We are ... counting on the resumption of exchanges," Zelenskyy said in a video posted on the Telegram messaging app on Sunday. "Many meetings, negotiations and calls are now devoted to this."Spearheading these efforts, Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council Rustem Umerov reported significant progress following high-level consultations held in Turkey and the United Arab Emirates. The goal is to revert to the protocols established under the "Istanbul agreements," a 2022 framework brokered by Ankara that set the rules for large-scale coordinated swaps."As a result of these negotiations, the parties agreed to return to the Istanbul agreements," he said.According to the security chief, the scale of the proposed swap is significant."This concerns the release of 1,200 Ukrainians," Umerov said in a statement on Telegram. While thousands of prisoners have been traded since the full-scale invasion in February 2022, the process has frequently stalled due to frontline escalations. Umerov indicated that officials are now moving quickly to finalize procedural details, driven by the approaching holiday season."We are working without pause so that Ukrainians who are to return from captivity can celebrate New Year and Christmas at home – at the family table and with their loved ones," Umerov said.As of Sunday, there was no immediate comment from the Kremlin regarding the potential resumption of the exchange program.
