Military expert Oleksandr Kovalenko discussed the issue. One of the most prominent examples of such information operations by Russian agents is the social media account on X called Spetsnaℤ 007, created in May 2022, verified, and with over 310,000 followers. The channel is owned by Alex Oloyede, apparently Russian on his mother’s side, who lives in the U.S. and runs the English-language account to influence an English-speaking audience. Most SpetsnaZ 007 posts aim to discredit Ukrainian refugees, spread fake news, and create a negative image of Ukrainians in the U.S. and the wider English-speaking world.“This surrealism somewhat clashes with the image of a representative of a highly spiritual nation, bearer of sacred values and a supposedly glorious extra chromosome, who lives not in Omsk or Magadan but broadcasts from the United States. At the same time, he shows absolutely no desire to return to his historic homeland and join the ‘invincible’ Russian army to take part in the ‘sacred' war,” the military expert noted. And this is far from an isolated case. Numerous similar platforms exist in the information space, all forming part of the wider network of Russian intelligence operations. In addition, it is surprising that law enforcement in various countries takes no action against these influence agents who are treated as mere citizens expressing opinions. Today they discredit Ukrainians, quote Russian officials, and attack Moldova’s Maia Sandu, and tomorrow they could target local authorities or even Donald Trump.“The West does not fully grasp the depth of the problem created by the snakes nurtured at their bosom,” Kovalenko concluded.
