Keep up pace, momentum

That's exactly what's still missing to break the Russian bulldozer. When it was stopped in 2022, there wasn't enough equipment and ammunition to exploit the success. Much has also been said about the mistake of dispersing resources in 2023, which prevented breaking through the enemy's defenses — including remarks by Commander-in-Chief Valeriy Zaluzhnyi, who then had to carry out the "brilliant" ideas of the political leadership.Even the brilliant, audacious operations of the Ukrainian Defense Forces inside Russia — from attacks on the Crimean Bridge to the Spider Web Operation, which has surely already made it into every textbook — lack precisely one thing: continuation. The enemy is well-resourced (at least for now), recovers, and if not finished off will get back up and keep killing. Now there is finally a resource built up for sustained long-range strikes deep into Russian territory. Russia's loss figures are encouraging: 38% of oil industry facilities have been hit, fuel supplies are disappearing across a number of regions, and rail transport is teetering on the brink…That’s despite petroleum-product output falling by only “about” 10%, and despite Russia still finding ways to evade sanctions and stage large-scale provocations even against NATO countries. Not to mention the continued attacks on various regions of Ukraine, aimed at ultimately destroying the energy (including gas) infrastructure and terrorizing the population — and the bloody assaults on the front under torrents of drones, bombs and missiles, with creeping territorial "gains."This means that breaking this bulldozer requires a constant increase in pressure. An acceleration. So they won’t have time to recover, repair, and rebuild. When such capability is achieved, there will be hope for peace. What is needed for this? The key is pooling resources and capabilities to effectively ramp up domestic production, attract investment, and secure allies’ assistance.Working at a C-level — 7 out of 12 — is not enough. It doesn’t allow us to maintain the pace, the momentum. It’s heartbreaking to see brilliant breakthroughs go to waste because there’s no follow-through. The Ukrainian Defense Forces are doing their job excellently. The question is the work on sustainment and logistics in the rear.SourceAbout the author.
