Details: After his conversation with Macron, Zelenskyy said Ukrainian and French teams in Geneva are continuing to work with partners, adding that "it is very important that there is a practical result and that it brings Ukraine and all of Europe closer to reliable peace and security".
"We are coordinating our positions, and it is important that there is dialogue, that diplomacy has been reinvigorated. We count on our partners to hear our arguments," he tweeted.
Quote from Zelenskyy: "The leadership of the United States is important, we are grateful for everything that America and President Trump are doing for security, and we keep working as constructively as possible. We expect new reports from our teams in Switzerland."
Background:
- On Sunday, as talks on a "peace plan" for ending the war in Ukraine are taking place in Geneva, Trump accused the Ukrainian authorities of showing no gratitude for America's efforts, and criticised Europe for continuing to purchase Russian oil.
- Following reports from the Ukrainian team at the Geneva talks, Zelenskyy said that the US proposals may incorporate a number of elements reflecting Ukrainian perspectives that are vital to its national interests.
- Rustem Umierov, Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine (NSDC) and a member of Ukraine's delegation at the negotiations in Geneva, has said that the current draft of the "peace plan" already reflects most of Ukraine's key priorities.
