Ukraine's General Staff says Flamingo missile was first launched in spring 2025

Ukrainian forces first used the Ukrainian FP-5 Flamingo cruise missile in the spring of 2025.
Source: Dmytro Lykhovii, spokesperson for the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, at a press conference held by Fire Point, the manufacturer of the Flamingo missile, as reported by Ukrainian public broadcaster Hromadske
Details: Lykhovii said the missile has "strong declared tactical and technical characteristics and significant development potential", but noted that it is still an experimental weapon.
Quote: "While in the case of the FP-1 drone we note the significant effectiveness achieved through years of mass use and refinement, the General Staff experts believe the FP-5 still needs to follow this path."
Details: The spokesperson added that while the FT-1 drone underwent substantial modernisation over two years, such upgrades are more challenging for the FP-5 because "launches are counted in slightly different numbers".
Iryna Terekh, Fire Point's Chief Technology Officer, said missile production is being expanded and scaled up in accordance with the initial plan.
The company's co-owners also said that a plant is being built in Denmark to manufacture solid-fuel engines for FP-5 boosters, as well as for the FP-7 and FP-9 ballistic missiles currently in development.
