Details: The ambassadors said they hope for Zelenskyy's continued leadership in anti-corruption reforms, which are essential for Ukraine's Euro-Atlantic integration.
Quote from the ambassadors: "We welcome Zelenskyy's cooperation and support for NABU/SAPO's independent investigation. We count on Ukraine's leadership to continue its anticorruption efforts, which is key to Ukraine's Euro-Atlantic integration. As Russian attacks persist, we continue to support Ukraine's energy resilience."
Background:
- Earlier, NABU unveiled an investigation into a major corruption scheme within Energoatom, Ukraine's state-owned nuclear energy company, codenamed "Midas".
- The ringleader is alleged to be Tymur Mindich (referred to as "Karlson" in the NABU files), a businessman and co-owner of Kvartal 95, the Ukrainian TV production company that Volodymyr Zelenskyy founded before he became president. Mindich is also alleged to have exerted influence over former energy minister Herman Halushchenko and former defence minister Rustem Umierov.
- The European Commission believes the exposure of the corruption scheme demonstrates the effectiveness of Ukraine's anti-corruption bodies.
