Serbia does not object to Europe purchasing ammunition from Serbia for Ukraine

Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić has proposed that Europe purchase ammunition from Serbia's defence companies, and stated he is not opposed to the idea that Serbian weapons might later be passed on to Ukraine.
Source : Vučić in an interview with German political culture magazine Cicero, as reported by European Pravda
Details : Vučić said that, although he did not want to appear to be someone who supplies ammunition to warring parties, Europe needs ammunition, and that he had offered their friends in Europe a deal to buy everything Serbia had, which he described as a phenomenal contribution to European security.
Vučić noted that Serbian ammunition depots were full of ammunition, with particularly large stocks of mortar shells.
When asked about the possibility of ammunition purchased from Serbia being subsequently handed over to Ukraine, Vučić said that buyers would be free to do whatever they wanted with it.
He added that they simply needed long-term contracts so they could plan ahead, saying he had always maintained that Serbia was a neutral country, but that it was absolutely ready to cooperate with its European friends on military matters and that he was now awaiting responses from European countries to his proposal.
Background :
- In May, Russia's Foreign Intelligence Service complained that Serbian defence companies, despite Belgrade's declared neutrality, were continuing to supply ammunition to Kyiv.
- Over the summer, Moscow repeated the accusations, describing the issue as painful for both Russia and Serbia.
- After that, Vučić announced a suspension of all ammunition exports.
- Prior to this, Vučić said in 2023 he would not object to his country selling ammunition to intermediaries who then send it to Ukraine.
