IAEA: Russian strikes damage substations vital for Ukraine's nuclear safety

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said this in a statement.IAEA teams at the South Ukraine NPP and the Khmelnytskyi NPP reported that each of these plants lost access to one of its external power lines.It is reported that due to shelling, the IAEA team at the Khmelnytskyi NPP was forced to take shelter in their hotel for several hours. The IAEA team at the Rivne NPP stated that, at the request of the grid operator, the plant reduced the power output of two of its four power units.“The dangers to nuclear safety continue to be very real and ever-present,” said Director General Grossi. “I once again call for maximum military restraint in the vicinity of nuclear facilities and full respect of the seven indispensable pillars for nuclear safety and security.” On October 30, as a result of a massive missile and drone attack on the energy infrastructure, emergency power outages were introduced in most regions of Ukraine.
