Former Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk made this statement during a panel discussion entitled Pressure for Peace: How to End Russia's War Against Ukraine, organized by the Atlantic Council.“This is an act of territorial seizure, and we have no right to legitimize it. So what does Ukraine need? Military support, additional security measures from the United States, financial assistance, secondary sanctions from the U.S. and the EU, and joint pressure on China to make it at least neutral — because China is an accomplice,” he noted.According to Yatsenyuk, China today serves as a rear office financing the war against Ukraine and all democracies. Therefore, an action plan is needed to offer alternatives to those countries that have helped Russia evade sanctions and to encourage them to end their dependence on Russian oil and gas.“I firmly believe that this U.S. administration will fulfill its promises to supply Ukraine with long-range Tomahawk missiles. And that the free world, with all its strength and capacity, will continue to support Ukraine — because Ukraine is defending the free world,” he said.During the discussion, Arseniy Yatsenyuk also noted that Russia’s summer offensive operation had failed and ended in defeat. “Putin is now preparing for a winter offensive. It will be a kind of combination — a ground assault on the front lines coupled with drone and missile attacks on Ukraine’s energy sector, heating facilities, power grids, and infrastructure,” he said.According to Yatsenyuk, the only way to pressure Putin and force him to change his plans is to show that the United States is fully committed to supporting Ukraine — that a new, additional security package is on the way, and that decisions on further assistance are already being prepared.“Putin sought to break Ukraine’s morale. In this, he has failed. And that is unprecedented, because Ukrainians have managed to maintain such strong unity for 11 years,” Arseniy Yatsenyuk concluded.
