Former CIA special operations chief Ralph Goff shared his opinions in an interview with Anton Borkovskyi, host of the Studio West program, on Espreso TV.“Well, you know, Spiderweb certainly demonstrated that there are internal weaknesses in Russia. The FSB, the internal security service, really dropped the ball on that one. And the SVR, the foreign intelligence service, does not seem to be providing adequate intelligence on the plans and intentions of foreign governments. The GRU, on the other hand, appears to be in a strong position. They are well funded and seem to be gaining significant experience in what we call the gray zone, meaning sabotage operations in the West,” Goff said.He pointed to a string of incidents, including the arson of a shopping center in Poland, attempts to plant explosives on planes departing from Lithuania, and a plot to assassinate the CEO of German defense company Rheinmetall, as evidence of the GRU’s dangerous capacity.“So far, I would say the NATO response has been very unsatisfactory,” Goff stressed. “All these acts of sabotage and economic damage in the West – and how is the West responding? Not very forcefully. Vladimir Putin is like a two-year-old, always testing what he can get away with from his parents. And Putin has been getting away with a lot. To this day, he has not been held accountable, nor have his services. There is a real danger here if the West does not begin responding to his acts of violence and sabotage.”Earlier, Pekka Toveri, former head of Finnish military intelligence and now a member of the European Parliament, argued that Europe could defend itself without the U.S. military, as its combined resources far exceed those of Russia.
