The I Want to Live project reports. A strategic Russian command post in the Zaporizhzhia region was destroyed on August 30, 2025, resulting in the deaths of at least 18 officers in what is being reported as a deliberate act of sabotage. The incident occurred near the settlement of Voskresenka. The attack was reportedly initiated when unknown individuals set fire to dry grass surrounding the command post. Fueled by the arid conditions, the flames rapidly engulfed the military premises and dugouts. The blaze produced heavy smoke and a lethal accumulation of carbon monoxide, trapping the operational staff inside and preventing their escape. The losses represent a significant blow to the 35th Army's command structure, with several high-ranking officials among the deceased. Casualties included Colonel Ilya Makhotin, the deputy chief of staff for missile forces and artillery, and Lieutenant Colonel Ruslan Shigabutdinov, who was in charge of operational planning. Other high-value targets eliminated in the fire were the head of the fire and nuclear strike planning department and a senior officer for mathematical modeling. While the bodies of 13 officers were recovered from the scene, another five are believed to be buried under the rubble, including the deputy chief of intelligence for the headquarters. Russian sources have reportedly confirmed some of the casualties, with public funerals for several officers having already taken place.During the day on September 17, the occupying Russian army lost at least 930 more troops. Ukrainian defenders also destroyed 33 artillery systems and 2 tanks.
