Polish farmers block trucks at Medyka–Shehyni border crossing

Ukraine's State Border Guard Service reported the information.According to the border guards, the restrictions affect only trucks and may last at least six hours. The protesters’ action is taking place one kilometer from the Polish checkpoint.Traffic for passenger cars and buses is unchanged. There are 681 trucks registered in the queue to exit Ukraine and about 100 for entry; they are already in a specially arranged parking area, so nothing will prevent their processing, the State Border Guard Service added.The State Border Guard Service will provide further updates about any changes or complications to traffic.Earlier, Suspilne, citing the Lviv Customs Office, reported that Polish farmers had planned a strike today, September 6, near the Medyka–Shehyni checkpoint.“The strikers plan to hold a protest action blocking freight vehicles heading into Ukraine on September 6 from 11:00 a.m. to 17:00 p.m. Polish time (from 12:00 p.m. Kyiv time),” the customs office said.Last year and this year Poles have repeatedly carried out actions blocking the Polish–Ukrainian border. Last year there were mass protests by Polish farmers, which ultimately caused economic losses on both sides. This spring Polish carriers protested.On May 12, carriers began a protest in the direction of the Dorohusk checkpoint, opposite the Ukrainian Yahodyn checkpoint. Trucks were then allowed through at a rate of one vehicle per hour for entry and one per hour for exit. After negotiations between representatives of the Ukrainian and Polish authorities, the Poles ended the strike.
