Defense Express CEO Serhiy Zgurets stated this on Espreso TV.“In the direction of Pokrovsk, Russian forces continue to concentrate, because without capturing Pokrovsk and Myrnohrad the enemy cannot advance toward the Sloviansk–Kramatorsk agglomeration. Ukrainian troops are also being concentrated here — our reserves have been redeployed, in particular from the Sumy region and the Kursk region — including the assault regiment Skelya, which is driving the invaders out of certain settlements. But Russia has recently moved a number of its military units as well, among them three or four naval infantry brigades and air-assault troops, which are being redirected from the eastern flank to hold the eastern sector near Dobropillia. From the west, our troops are conducting counterattacks, while from the east the invaders are transferring forces and trying to hold this sector,” the military expert commented. In his view, much will depend on the main fighting near Dobropillia. If Russia manages to push through this sector, then from the north it could advance on Pokrovsk, disrupting logistics and developing offensive actions toward Druzhkivka. Such a situation would create threats for yet another sector.“In this direction, Ukrainian counterattacks from the east are tying down significant enemy forces. In fact, everything will depend on how effectively our counterattacks can overcome the enemy forces concentrated there. De facto, the Russian troops currently have more personnel. To a large extent, everything will depend on the skill of our commanders and the dedication of the service members, particularly the assault troops, who are achieving remarkable results on the battlefield. We understand that, in addition to the axis from the north toward Dobropillia, the enemy is trying to enter Pokrovsk, where they are being driven out. But a partial encirclement of Pokrovsk remains. However, the effectiveness of fighting near Dobropillia will affect the character of further operations around Pokrovsk itself,” Zgurets summarized.Since the start of the day on Friday, September 5, there have been 103 engagements on the Russian–Ukrainian front. In the Pokrovsk direction the Russian army attacked 26 times.
