OSINT methods confirm 2,577 Ukrainian service members held in Russian captivity

Ukraine's Ministry of Internal Affairs reported the information.This was the fifth visit of an OSCE delegation aimed at monitoring respect for the rights of Ukrainian prisoners of war."One of the key areas of work is ensuring the proper functioning of the Unified Register of Persons Missing in Special Circumstances, and our shared goal is to bring every citizen home, bearing in mind that prisoners of war retain the status of missing in action until their return," the commissioner said.The Ministry of Internal Affairs said that, using OSINT methods, it was possible to confirm that 2,577 Ukrainian servicemen are in captivity. Information regarding 680 people, including 91 civilians, has not yet been confirmed by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC)."There are also eight cases in which people identified as prisoners were later found among the dead. For six of them the ICRC still has not confirmed information about their being held captive," the Ministry added.A hotline, 1698, is available for communication with the commissioner.Regional offices are also operating in 12 regions, where citizens can be received. Additionally, an electronic system for submitting questionnaires by families of missing persons has been implemented.At the end of September, the independent experts of the OSCE mission will publish an international report on Russia's violations of its commitments to the OSCE, abuses and human rights violations, war crimes, and other breaches of international humanitarian law.
