Valerii Riabykh, military expert and Defense Express development director, stated this on Espreso TV.“It is notable that it was the U.S. president who changed the rules of the game. Until now, we saw all sorts of nonsense with which the Kremlin or Kremlin-affiliated talking heads shaped the agenda, but now President Trump, with his statement, has turned everything upside down. How to respond to such statements by Trump—because it will be difficult both to respond and not to respond, and not responding would also be a sign of weakness for the Russian Federation,” he said.Riabykh noted that the United States has certain trump cards in this situation, particularly regarding the confrontation between the submarine components of the nuclear triads.“In the Soviet Union, the submarine component was quite powerful, and it remains the most powerful in the Russian Federation today. Traditionally, the highest percentage of this component is kept in combat-ready condition in Russia. However, we also know that technologically, the Russian submarine component of the nuclear triad significantly lags behind the American one, which has more advanced technologies. Thanks to the stealth, low noise, and versatility of their submarines, the U.S. can use them for both defensive and offensive missions,” the expert believes. He commented on Trump’s statement about the submarines.“As many have said, it may be that they were deployed to go on combat duty, to strike the Russian Federation. But it may not be so, because these nuclear submarines also operate as hunters, able to track Russian submarines that go on combat patrols themselves, to prevent them from doing anything harmful,” Riabykh noted. The expert added that the Americans are very good at this.“Even during Soviet times, they listened in on all conversations for a long time, having installed recording equipment on the undersea cables of the Soviet Navy, and for a very long time they listened to all the secrets regarding this component. Technologically, the Americans also have much quieter submarines. So this is truly a trump card to which the Russian Federation has no answer, especially considering that other parts of their nuclear triad are also quite weak, particularly the air component, which has been significantly depleted by the Ukrainians,” he concluded. On Friday, August 1, U.S. President Donald Trump ordered the deployment of two nuclear submarines to certain regions in response to statements by Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev. On August 4, Trump confirmed that two American nuclear submarines had been moved to “appropriate regions” in response to threats from former Russian leader Dmitry Medvedev.
