Former Lithuanian foreign minister Gabrielius Landsbergis has shared his views on Ukraines fight against Russia and the role of the West in supporting Kyiv.
Source Landsbergis in an interview with tonline, as reported by European Pravda Details Landsbergis emphasised that Ukraine must be given as much weaponry as possible to stop Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin and prevent him from seizing more Ukrainian territory.
The price his army would have to pay for this must become unaffordable, he stated, stressing the importance of allied support.
Asked what else the West can do beyond providing weapons, Landsbergis underlined that the only effective security guarantee for Ukraine is NATO membership.
That is the cheapest and most effective way, Landsbergis said confidently.
He also argued that if Europe wants to continue existing, it must push back against Putin.
Background Ukraines President Volodymyr Zelenskyy recently stated that the prospect of ending the war or achieving a truce in Ukraine depends on Europes readiness to adopt a tougher stance on Russia, adding that without the Ukrainian military, Europe stands no chance against Russia.
In an interview with European Pravda, Ukraines Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha reaffirmed that Ukraine will not abandon its goal of joining NATO and will accept no substitutes for membership.
