Ukraine is developing its own air defence system with capabilities equivalent to the American Patriot system, Ukrainian Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi has said.

Details: The interviewer mentioned that if Ukraine had had sufficient Patriot ammunition, it could have defended the Trypillia Thermal Power Plant from the Russian attack, and expressed the hope that Ukraine's allies will "prove themselves as true allies".

Quote from Syrskyi: "I agree with you on one hand. On the other hand, you know that during Soviet times, we [Ukraine – ed.] effectively manufactured all the controllers for anti-aircraft missile systems. So we have the capacity and the ability to create [such systems – ed.], and work is underway to develop our own domestic air defence system."

Details: Asked whether this means Ukraine could produce its own equivalent of the Patriot system, Syrskyi replied: "I hope it will be comparable in performance to the Patriot."
