The State Bureau of Investigation of Ukraine and the Security Service of Ukraine SSU have detained the former commander of the 155th Separate Mechanised Brigade, Colonel Dmytro Riumshyn, and are preparing to serve him with a notice of suspicion.

The military units leadership staff reported to him not only verbally, but also in writing, on the facts of criminal offences committed by subordinate service members.
These included servicemens unauthorised absences from the armed forces, as well as their failure to return from leave, business trips, and sick leave.
However, the commander failed to notify the pretrial investigative authorities of the facts.
The commanders actions prevented law enforcement officers from initiating a legal procedure to find and return the servicemen to their military units and reserve battalions or, in some cases, ensure that they served their sentences for their crimes.
The State Bureau of Investigation said some subordinates periodically left the place of service without permission, then returned voluntarily, and then did it again, feeling complete impunity for such illegal acts.
Furthermore, the colonel unreasonably included men who were not motivated to serve in the military on the list of people who were supposed to receive training in France.
Among them were people who had been warned and prohibited by their superiors instructions and commands.
In particular, 22 servicemen who were summoned for mobilisation from the border oblast but whose registration location is in another region, as well as 15 servicemen who were brought to administrative charges in 2024 prior to their military mobilisation for attempting to illegally cross the state border outside of state border crossing points.
As a result, 56 soldiers from the brigade fled their training grounds in France without permission.
Law enforcement officers reportedly detained the former 155th Brigade commander and will bring him to Kyiv to serve him with a notice of suspicion of failure by a military officer to report to a pretrial investigation body a subordinate who committed a criminal offence, as well as other intentional failures by a military officer to perform actions that he or she was required to perform by his or her official duties, which was committed under martial law and caused significant damage.
It is also planned to file a petition to the court to impose a preventive measure, such as detention, on the suspect.

Photo Prosecutor Generals Office Background Ukrainian journalist Yurii Butusov claimed at the end of December 2024 that the brigade had been improperly formed and supplied, noting issues with manpower, equipment, and ammunition that had resulted in personnel losses.
It was later reported that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had taken the situation with the 155th Brigade under his personal control during the Supreme CommanderinChiefs meeting.
Oleksandr Syrskyi, CommanderinChief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, stated that he had focused on strengthening the capabilities of the 155th Mechanised Brigades unmanned systems units and addressing problematic issues that need to be resolved.
A French army official confirmed incidents of desertion among Ukrainian soldiers undergoing training in France.
On 7 January, the General Staff of Ukraine stated that the 155th Separate Mechanised Brigade was performing combat missions on the Pokrovsk front in full strength, having been reinforced with drones and additional equipment.
