German MP: Putin must accept peace proposal to end war

Jürgen Hardt, a Bundestag MP from the ruling CDU/CSU bloc, has said that Kremlin ruler Vladimir Putin must accept peace proposals in order to end the war he launched against Ukraine.

Details: Hardt said that if the Kremlin ruler refuses to accept peace proposals, "the Western world will increase its military support for Ukraine, which makes it more difficult for Putin to reach his military goals".
"And therefore he should now take what is on the table. It's more than he should get," the MP added.
Asked whether US President Donald Trump would adhere to the points discussed by Ukraine and the United States in Berlin, Hardt said that the United States is "strongly committed to that plan and therefore I'm optimistic that the alliance between the US, Ukraine and the European states is sustainable and also a strong word to Putin".
Territorial issues remain unresolved, but Hardt stressed that only Ukraine can decide whether to give up territory.
Quote: "We are convinced that only Ukraine and the Ukrainian president and the Ukrainian parliament can take such a decision. By the way, also the Constitution of Ukraine makes it necessary that the Rada [the Ukrainian parliament] is agreeing on that."
Background:
- An anonymous US official told Sky News that "90% of issues" between Ukraine and Russia were resolved during the Ukraine-US talks in Berlin.
- President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed that Ukraine will not recognise Donbas as Russian, either de facto or de jure, and acknowledged that no compromise has been reached on this issue.
- He also said that he sees readiness on the part of the United States to provide Ukraine with legally binding security guarantees operating on the principle of NATO Article 5, while measures by European partners are also being discussed in parallel.
