Details: In an interview with Rheinische Post, party leader Jan van Aken said that "leaving China out is a strategic mistake that is unnecessarily prolonging the war".
"Ultimately, we need an idea for how to get the Kremlin to engage in serious negotiations. That's why China must also be brought on board, as that would increase the pressure on Russia," he said.
He added that it is also important that the majority of Ukraine's population supports any peace plan: "Only then will peace be sustainable. For this, material security guarantees are needed for Ukraine."
Van Aken stressed that this should concern not only NATO troops, "but also a UN peacekeeping mission that includes Chinese soldiers. Russia will never fire on Chinese soldiers, so Chinese peacekeepers must also take part in ensuring peace".
Background:
- It was reported earlier that the US may provide Ukraine with security guarantees based on NATO Article 5, which would be approved by Congress and be legally binding.
- Talks between Ukraine and the US on a peaceful settlement of the war with Russia are taking place in Berlin on Sunday 14 December.
