The US and several European countries have not supported Ukraine's accession to NATO as a security guarantee within the talks around the US administration's peace plan.

Details: Zelenskyy recalled that Ukraine's intention from the very beginning was accession to NATO. He said that this would have been real security guarantees.

Quote: "Such a direction has not been supported by some of our partners, both the United States of America and in Europe. And so today bilateral security guarantees between Ukraine and the United States of America, namely guarantees similar to Article 5 from the United States of America for us, and security guarantees from our European colleagues for us, as well as from other countries – Canada, Japan and so on – these security guarantees for us are an opportunity to prevent another wave of Russian aggression."

More details: Zelenskyy believes this is already a compromise on Ukraine's part.

• It was reported earlier that the US may provide Ukraine with security guarantees similar to those envisaged by Article 5 of the NATO Treaty, which would be approved by Congress and be legally binding.
• The Wall Street Journal reported that Trump's Special Envoy Steve Witkoff will meet with European leaders and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Berlin.
• The invitation for US representatives to attend the Berlin meeting followed a tense phone call on Wednesday between Friedrich Merz, Emmanuel Macron, Keir Starmer and Donald Trump, during which the sides sought to overcome differences over the direction of peace efforts.
