Vance on ending Russia's war against Ukraine: Biggest disappointment, but there's hope for good news

Source : Vance in an interview with NBS News
Details : When asked about his greatest disappointment as vice president, Vance pointed to the failure to reach a deal to stop Russia's war against Ukraine.
Quote : "Oh, man. I mean, look, the Russia-Ukraine thing has been a source of perennial frustration, I think, for the entire White House.
I think that we really thought – and you've heard the president [Donald Trump] say this a million times – that that would be the easiest war to solve.
And if you would put, you know, peace in the Middle East as easier to achieve than peace in Eastern Europe, I would have told you you were crazy."
Details : However, Vance added that he remains optimistic.
Quote : "I do think, for what it's worth, that we have made a lot of progress, but we're not yet quite across the finish line there.
I think there's hope – should hopefully be some good news the next few weeks on that front."
Background:
- US President Donald Trump stated that his Special Envoy Steven Witkoff and son-in-law Jared Kushner believe that Russian leader Vladimir Putin would like to end the war.
- The meeting between Putin, Witkoff and Kushner on 2 December lasted nearly five hours.
- According to media reports, Witkoff and Kushner were allegedly preparing to tell Russia that the United States was ready to recognise Russia's de facto control over the territories it has seized in Ukraine as part of a potential peace agreement.
