Details: Letymbiotis said that expanded talks between the delegations, chaired by the presidents of Cyprus and Ukraine, have begun.
Issues to be discussed during the talks include bilateral relations, achieving a peace agreement in Ukraine and Cyprus's forthcoming presidency of the Council of the European Union.
The two leaders will brief the media at a joint press conference later.
The president of Cyprus is also expected to visit the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine (Ukrainian parliament) for a meeting with Speaker Ruslan Stefanchuk, after which he will travel to a rehabilitation centre for children who were abducted and later brought back from Russian-occupied territories. He will also visit the historic Saint Sophia Cathedral.
Cyprus is due to hold the presidency of the Council of the European Union in the first half of 2026.
President Nikos Christodoulides arrived in Kyiv by train at 08:00, where he was met by Ukraine's Deputy Foreign Minister Yevhen Perebyinis and Ukraine's ambassador to Cyprus Serhii Nizhynskyi.
Christodoulides began the day by laying wreaths at the Wall of Remembrance of the Fallen for Ukraine, a large memorial near St Michael's Cathedral displaying photographs of fallen Ukrainian soldiers.
Officials say that the visit demonstrates Cyprus's "firm political will" to support European priorities and stand with Kyiv.
Quote from KNews: "Christodoulides isn't arriving empty-handed: he's expected to present Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky with 19 proposals Cyprus wants to push during its presidency, many of them directly tied to Ukraine."
More details: The Cypriot president is also expected to raise the issue of circumventing the European Union's sanctions against Russia. Nicosia plans to present evidence indicating that Turkish companies are allegedly helping to evade restrictions and hopes Ukraine will use its influence on Ankara.
In addition, Christodoulides reportedly wants to raise the issue of 37 Cypriot citizens and 227 Cypriot companies featured on Ukraine's sanctions list, which Nicosia believes is based on unverified allegations.
Background: Zelenskyy met with the Ukrainian community in Ireland and said that Kyiv wants to open negotiating clusters during Cyprus's presidency, with the next step being to close them. Ireland is to take over the presidency of the Council of the European Union after Cyprus.
