Ukraine's commander-in-chief says Ukrainian forces hold northern Pokrovsk and block attempts to bypass city

Oleksandr Syryskyi, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, has said that Ukrainian units have continued to hold the northern part of the city of Pokrovsk and through active operations have been preventing Russian forces from consolidating assault groups and advancing around Pokrovsk and Myrnohrad.

Details: Syryskyi said that an "extremely difficult stage" in the defence of the Pokrovsk-Myrnohrad urban area is ongoing, which is why he has again held meetings with the commanders of force groups and the commanders of corps, brigades, regiments and separate battalions.
He said that Ukrainian troops are continuing to hold designated areas inside the two cities.
Quote: "In the area of Pokrovsk and Myrnohrad we are using active operations to block the enemy's attempts to build up assault infantry groups and to advance around these settlements.
Within the cities, our soldiers are continuing to hold the areas assigned to them.
While the occupiers show no regard for their manpower losses, Ukrainian commanders have a clear understanding of how important it is to preserve the lives and health of their personnel."
More details: Syryskyi said that the meeting had clarified issues of coordinated use of units, enabling their movement and the timely rotation of those conducting search-and-assault operations to detect and kill the enemy.
Decisions have been taken to ensure the resilience of the defence regarding battle management, coordination and comprehensive support for the forces and assets involved.
Syryskyi also underlined the importance of organising additional logistics routes and timely medical evacuation, as well as conducting counter-battery warfare and countering Russian drones.
Background:
- On 3 December, the Main Operational Directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that Ukrainian defenders repelled 52 Russian attacks on the Pokrovsk front near the settlements of Volodymyrivka, Maiak, Rodynske, Chervonyi Lyman, Novoekonomichne, Pokrovsk, Kotlyne, Udachne, Molodetske, Dachne and towards Novopavlivka.
- On 3 December, DeepState, a Ukrainian group of military analysts, reported that Russian forces had advanced in Pokrovsk.
- Ukraine's Air Assault Forces later said that Russian troops were bogged down in urban combat for Pokrovsk and that claims that the city had been captured are disinformation.
