Putin signs 30-day visa-free entry for Chinese citizens

Russian leader Vladimir Putin has signed a decree introducing visa-free entry for Chinese citizens.

Details: The decree allows citizens of the People's Republic of China to enter the Russian Federation and stay for up to 30 days on private or business visits, as tourists, to participate in scientific, cultural, socio-political, economic, or sporting events, or to travel through Russia in transit and leave the country, all without a visa, using a regular Chinese ID. The rule applies until 14 September 2026 inclusive.
This regime does not apply to Chinese citizens entering Russia for the purpose of employment or study.
Background:
- On 31 August, Putin arrived in China on a four-day visit.
- In September, Guo Jiakun, spokesperson for China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that his country would introduce a one-year trial 30-day visa-free regime for Russian citizens.
