Details: According to a senior US administration official, the talks will concern, among other things, the schedule of elections in Ukraine.
In addition, they are discussing the possibility of exchanging territories between Russia and Ukraine and other issues that have remained unresolved between the White House and Kyiv.
Background:
- Earlier on Sunday, Axios reported that the US wants to resolve two key issues concerning territories and security guarantees for Ukraine at the Miami meeting.
- The talks in Florida take place after several weeks of diplomatic efforts and negotiations since information about a US "peace plan" appeared online.
- Critics have said that this plan is too advantageous for Russia, which has caused concern in Kyiv and among Ukraine's closest allies in Europe.
- Last week, Rubio held the first round of talks with Ukrainian officials in Geneva, and both sides said they had made progress in developing a mutually acceptable peace plan.
- First Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine Serhii Kyslytsia, who has been taking part in talks on the "peace plan" in Florida, has noted the US side's constructive approach.
- US special envoy Steve Witkoff will meet with Russian leader Vladimir Putin in Moscow next week and will convey to him the results of Sunday's agreements.
