Ukraine's allies considering actions in case US stops sharing intelligence with Kyiv

Ukraine's allies are still assessing how seriously to take media reports that the United States has threatened to halt intelligence sharing with Kyiv if it does not agree to a proposed "peace plan".
Source: Politico, a Brussels-based politics and policy news organisation, as reported by European Pravda
Details: James Appathurai, acting head of NATO's DIANA defence innovation programme, said the US has unique intelligence capabilities "even in a NATO context".
Considering alternatives to US intelligence for Ukraine, he added that "there are commercial options available to any country that were not available or not thought of even a few years ago".
He pointed to one alternative to American providers: the Finnish space company ICEYE, originally formed to monitor ice from space but now offering mobile Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance.
ICEYE has sold satellites to the militaries of Poland and the Netherlands, as well as to the armed forces of Finland and Portugal. It also already provides some data to Ukraine.
Andrius Kubilius, EU Commissioner for Defence and Space, said the EU already has several high-performance satellite services, including the global navigation system Galileo and the Copernicus weather observation system.
However, he noted that "there are some systems where we are being a little bit behind", particularly Starlink. A European alternative to this system, IRIS², is expected to become operational in 2030.
Kubilius also expressed confidence in the EU's ability to support Ukraine: "Ukraine, if they will decide that they want to continue, they will continue".
Background:
- Media reports indicate that US representatives are threatening to halt the supply of weapons and intelligence data in an attempt to secure Ukraine's consent to the US-developed "peace plan".
- The US had already suspended intelligence sharing once before, in March 2025, after a dispute between Presidents Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the White House.
