Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has said that before Europe begins working on the US "peace plan" to end Russia's war against Ukraine, it is essential to know who actually authored the plan.

Details: Tusk noted that Poland, together with the leaders of Europe, Canada and Japan, had expressed readiness to work on the 28-point plan "despite some reservations".

"However, before we start our work, it would be good to know for sure who is the author of the plan and where was it created," he added.

His remark comes after The Guardian discovered Russianisms in the US "peace proposal" written in English.

Some phrases in the proposal appear to have originally been drafted in Russian – several formulations are typical of Russian and unusual in English.

For example, the plan's third point reads: "It is expected that Russia will not invade neighbouring countries and NATO will not expand further".

The phrase "it is expected" is a clunky passive construction in English and appears to be a direct translation of the Russian "ожидается".

Later, a group of US senators said that Secretary of State Marco Rubio had told them the US "peace plan" was in fact a Russian proposal rather than a US initiative.

The senators claimed Rubio had agreed, at their request, to brief them and authorised them to disclose what he had said.

Rubio, however, insists that the "peace plan" was developed by the United States and is "based on input from the Russian side".
