Politico reported the information. The senior military leaders are meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and top defense officials this week as the U.S. seeks new approaches to end the ongoing war with Russia. The visit comes as Moscow has intensified its missile and drone attacks on Ukrainian civilian targets, while Western allies work to maintain weapons supplies to the embattled nation.Central to the discussions is a major technology-sharing agreement between the U.S. and Ukraine involving drone and autonomous weapons systems. Ukraine has emerged as a battlefield innovator, developing advanced long- and short-range armed drones that have transformed modern warfare and struck targets deep within Russian territory."When you look at Ukraine, [they] have not accepted the current version of a thing as sufficient, and they have MacGyvered and come up with whatever they have to do to get to an outcome they need," Driscoll told reporters at the Pentagon earlier this month. "There are no rules to get to that outcome, and they just achieve the thing."The Army has set an ambitious goal of purchasing 1 million drones over the next two to three years, far exceeding current U.S. defense industry capacity. Meanwhile, Ukraine already produces more than 1.5 million first-person view drones annually. The mission represents a significant shift in U.S.-Ukraine relations following tensions earlier this year. Trump and Vice President JD Vance previously clashed with Zelenskyy in the Oval Office, with Vance criticizing the Ukrainian leader for insufficient gratitude regarding billions in U.S. military aid. However, Trump has since warmed to Zelenskyy and strengthened support for NATO's Ukraine assistance efforts, particularly as diplomatic overtures to Russian leader Vladimir Putin have been rejected. Russia continues its aerial bombardment campaign, launching 430 drones and 18 missiles at Kyiv just last Friday.Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has not yet traveled to Ukraine, making Driscoll and George's visit particularly significant for advancing military cooperation between the two nations.
