Details: An unknown drone was spotted on 12 November near the Eurenco plant, which produces powder for shells, for the second time in the past three days. The first two flights of the device over the plant were recorded on Monday evening.
The plant's administration reported the incident to the relevant authorities and an investigation has been launched.
"Yesterday new instances of suspicious drone flights over the Eurenco production facility were recorded," the Bergerac prosecutor's office said.
The prefecture reported that the police immediately began searching for the drone's pilot after the administration's report, but the attempts were unsuccessful.
The investigation is being conducted on the grounds of intentional piloting of a device in a no-fly zone.
General Marc Le Bouil, Commander of Air Defence and Air Operations in the French Armed Forces, noted that based on available information, it could be assumed that it was a standard commercial drone similar to popular DJI devices.
The general added that such incidents and investigations are no longer rare.
For reference: Eurenco is a European leader in the production of powder and explosives. The company has production facilities in two locations in France – the cities of Bergerac and Sorgues – as well as in Sweden and Belgium. The powders produced at the plants are used in many French and European shells, rockets, torpedoes and medium-calibre munitions.
Background:
- France is also conducting an investigation into the surveillance of a column of Leclerc tanks by an unknown drone.
- Belgium has recently experienced a whole series of incidents involving the presence of unknown drones over strategic facilities, which has also disrupted airport operations.
