Politico reported the information. The cache of documents, released Wednesday by congressional investigators, reveals Epstein’s efforts to leverage his global connections to analyze, and potentially influence, Trump-era politics.Nearly a month before President Donald Trump’s controversial 2018 Helsinki meeting with Putin, Epstein attempted to pass a message to Russia’s top diplomat via an intermediary.“I think you might suggest to putin that lavrov can get insight on talking to me,” Epstein wrote in a June 24, 2018, email to Thorbjorn Jagland, a former prime minister of Norway. The "Lavrov" was an apparent reference to longtime Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. In the email, Epstein claimed he had previously advised Russia’s forceful U.N. ambassador, Vitaly Churkin, on how to understand Trump before Churkin’s death in 2017.“Churkin was great,” Epstein wrote. “He understood trump after our conversations. it is not complex. he must be seen to get something its that simple.”The exchanges also showcase the reactions of Epstein's elite contacts to Trump's actions. On the day of the Helsinki summit, Larry Summers, the former Clinton administration Treasury secretary, emailed Epstein in disbelief.“Do the Russians have stuff on Trump? Today was appalling even by his standards,” Summers wrote.Epstein replied the next day, calling Trump's performance "predictable." “Im sure his view is that it went super well. he thinks he has charmed his adversary.. Admittedly he has no idea of the symbolism. He has no idea of most things.”The emails also document Epstein’s correspondence with other high-profile figures, including efforts to arrange meetings for former Trump adviser Steve Bannon in Europe and boasting to billionaire Tom Pritzker about gifts from Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.“Can you belive MBS sent me a TENT carpets and all,” Epstein wrote in December 2016.The White House did not immediately comment on the specific exchanges but press secretary Karoline Leavitt said the broader set of emails “prove absolutely nothing other than President Trump did nothing wrong.”Trump later posted on Truth Social, calling the matter the “Jeffrey Epstein Hoax” and an attempt by Democrats "to deflect."
