ISW analyses situation around Pokrovsk and Myrnohrad

Analysts at the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) have noted that the situation near the cities of Pokrovsk and Myrnohrad in Donetsk Oblast remains difficult, as Ukrainian forces are fighting to hold the flanks of the so-called pocket, while Russian forces continue their offensive in the area.

Details : Ukrainian forces have reportedly liberated Rodynske, located north of Pokrovsk, as part of efforts to secure the northern flank of the pocket.
Ukrainian troops are also launching counterattacks inside Pokrovsk and on its western outskirts to stop further Russian advances on the southern flank of the pocket.
Quote from ISW : "Russian advances in northern and western Pokrovsk have slowed in recent days, likely due to continued Ukrainian efforts to counterattack."
Details : Meanwhile, Russian troops are pushing forward in the eastern and southern areas of the city, possibly trying to form a smaller pocket to help encircle Ukrainian forces in Pokrovsk and eventually force their withdrawal from the larger area.
Russian forces are also believed to maintain fire control over Ukraine's supply routes into the pocket, making logistics more difficult for Ukrainian defenders.
Quote from ISW : "Russian forces appear to be working simultaneously to complete the encirclement of the entire pocket and to reduce the pocket itself. The prospects and timeline for those efforts remain unclear."
Background :
- On the morning of 10 November, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine stated that logistics to the town of Myrnohrad in Donetsk Oblast are complicated but functioning and reports claiming that the Russians have full fire advantage over the Ukrainian defence forces' supply routes or that the city is operationally encircled are false.
- In the evening update, the General Staff reported that 156 combat clashes had been recorded on the battlefield since the beginning of 10 November, 59 of them on the Pokrovsk front.
