Reuters reported the information, citing two government sources, confirming a report from the business daily Handelsblatt.Germany, already Europe’s largest provider of military aid to Ukraine, has supplied roughly €40 billion since Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022. The current 2026 budget allocates €8.5 billion for Ukraine.“We will continue our support for as long as necessary to defend against Russia’s war of aggression,” one government source told Reuters.According to the sources, Germany’s finance and defense ministries plan to add the additional €3 billion to the final 2026 budget adjustments. The funds are expected to cover artillery, drones, armored vehicles, and the replacement of two Patriot air defense systems.A second source said that Chancellor Friedrich Merz supports the initiative, which is expected to be approved.Next year, NATO countries will allocate $60 billion in aid to Ukraine, according to NATO Senior Representative in Ukraine Patrick Turner.
