Pavlo Lakiichuk, the head of security programs at the Center for Global Studies Strategy XXI, said this on Espreso TV.“If we talk about the situation in the city, the Russian army is infiltrating from the south, mainly with units from the 2nd Combined Arms Army, into the industrial zones of Pokrovsk. Obviously, their main goal is to gain a foothold at the exits from the Pokrovsk-Myrnohrad agglomeration and cut off the movement of our forces.At the same time, part of the forces of Russia’s 51st Army, operating in the north, are also trying to infiltrate. However, their situation is much worse: our Defense Forces, the corps eliminating the Dobropillia salient, are actively countering them. The Russians are stubbornly trying to link up with the units advancing from the south,” Lakiichuk noted.According to the head of security programs at the Center for Global Studies Strategy XXI, the Russian task is to disorganize the Ukrainian defence. If they succeed, the defence will turn into a fragmented resistance that is not reliable.“This is the idea behind the new tactic, known as the infiltration tactic, when the enemy chooses gaps in the configuration of our defense. This tactic is driven by the shortage of our personnel, which allows them to act in this way. It’s difficult, but they often manage to do it. However, this does not mean that their actions will necessarily end in success,” Lakiichuk emphasized.In Pokrovsk, the Russian army continues to exert pressure with small groups, utilizing armored and lightly armored vehicles. Most attacks are neutralized, but logistics and movement remain the biggest problem for the Ukrainian Defense Forces.
