On the night of 27-28 October, Russian forces struck civilian gas infrastructure facilities in Poltava Oblast belonging to Naftogaz Group, Ukraine's largest national oil and gas company, in the seventh targeted attack since the beginning of October.

Quote from Serhii Koretskyi, CEO of Naftogaz of Ukraine: "Fortunately, no one was injured – that's the most important thing. Specialised personnel are now at the site assessing the damage and beginning repair work. The facilities targeted by Russia have no military significance."
Details: Koretskyi emphasised that the sole aim of these strikes is to deprive Ukrainians of gas and heating.
Background:
- Ukraine will be forced to import additional gas to compensate for losses in domestic production, and the volume of imports will need to match the amount of lost output, Deputy Energy Minister Mykola Kolisnyk has said.
- President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has stated that if necessary, Ukraine would be able to find US$2 billion worth of gas. Ukraine knows where to source the funds and where the gas would be imported from.
- The government has allocated UAH 8.4 billion (approx. US$200 million) to import gas for the heating season.
