Political analyst Oleh Saakian spoke about this on Espreso TV.He responded to a question about what kind of international pressure on Russia would be needed for Putin to abandon his tactic of terrorist attacks.“Absolutely clear. It is exclusively weapons for Ukraine, which can reach deeper and further into Russia. The same visit of the Ukrainian delegation to Washington, with Zelenskyy personally, was essentially conducted under a single slogan: ‘The formula for peace is more and more weapons for Ukraine,’” Saakian said.He emphasized that there must be weapons instead of words, because Russia does not understand any other language.“That is why Zelenskyy is now appealing precisely to this narrative, calling for ‘Tomahawks’ and other types of weaponry, since Russia does not stop and continues its aggression. Especially now, with the Lavrov-Rubio meeting falling through, when Putin and Russia are doing everything to avoid meeting in Budapest,” the political analyst said.In his view, the Russians are managing this quite effectively.“And I’m certain they will keep stringing Trump along with this meeting for some time. Maybe they’ll propose changing the venue or location. Maybe Putin will even say, ‘Yes, I went to Alaska, now you fly to Moscow or to some place like Syzran.’ He’ll invite Trump, but in the end they’ll try to keep stalling, because Russia’s goal is to buy time. Trump’s goal is to try to pressure Russia and reach an agreement with Russia — that’s what he wants. Ukraine’s goal is to use every opportunity to secure as much and as high-quality weaponry as possible, since there is no other way to end the Russo‑Ukrainian war,” Saakian concluded. On October 21, Reuters reported that U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian dictator Vladimir Putin do not plan to meet “in the near future.”
