Analyst Oleksii Yizhak of the National Institute for Strategic Studies shared his opinions on Espreso TV.“Peskov, Lavrov, Ryabkov, and several others in Putin’s circle want to continue this war. We have yet to hear from Ushakov and Dmitriev, who represent another group around Putin. The Kremlin talks about territories because they understand that if they present Ukraine with unrealistic conditions now, it creates an opportunity to split the country — and along with peace, to destroy Ukrainian statehood. I believe the U.S., particularly Marco Rubio, fully understands this and knows what the Kremlin is aiming for. Moscow wants a stopping point in the war that would lead to the destruction of Ukraine’s statehood, because they cannot achieve this by military means,” Yizhak explained. The analyst noted that Russia has always sought to create chaos in the world where Russians would feel the strongest. However, their current strategy plans only a horizon of about two months.“Russia’s main strategy has always been based on their belief that they can survive in a mess longer than others. That is, Russia has always aimed to create global chaos in which they would be the strongest. In my view, however, they have no long-term strategy. They plan only for one to two months,” he added. On October 21, Reuters reported that U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian leader Vladimir Putin do not plan to meet “in the near future.”
