Polish politician and president of the Polish-Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce Jacek Piechota expressed this opinion in an interview with Khrystyna Yatskiv on Espreso TV.“We have to be honest and say that in recent months we have seen a direct threat to Poland. For example, the appearance of drones in Polish airspace is a new reality for many Poles. Although we said that the attack on Ukraine was only the beginning of Russian aggression and that there might be further stages, Poland is under threat. But one thing is what politicians say, and another is hard facts. Is the Polish economy prepared for war? No, because until now there was no such requirement. Only in recent months have efforts been strengthened to make the Polish economy, especially in the industrial sector, operate differently,” he said.Jacek Piechota noted that the military-industrial complex is a state component of the economy. But previously, discussions and focus in Poland were only on private business.“For many Poles, Ukraine is an example where 80% of the armed sector consists of private firms that are very active, creative, and quickly implement battlefield experience into their production. In Poland, it’s somewhat different. Processes move much more slowly. Only now is the government working intensively on developing a security program for society. We don’t have shelters or places where citizens could wait out an air raid. We are supporting local authorities in creating such shelters. But in Poland, the process is just beginning. This is the reality. We are drawing on Ukrainian experience — unfortunately for Ukraine, but fortunately for us, we can learn from it. However, in Poland, it is not always properly appreciated,” he noted.
