About 600 people remain in Kupiansk, and there is currently no direct access to the city, according to Andriy Nikolaienko, evacuation manager at Eleos-Ukraine.Speaking about the situation on Hromadske Radio, Nikolaienko explained, “First of all, I want to note that the situation is not improving daily — it is worsening, and at the moment, we do not have direct access. Therefore, we are working closely with local police, the State Emergency Service, and the military.”According to Nikolaienko, approximately 600 people remain in Kupiansk. A mandatory evacuation has already been officially announced for the Kupiansk community in the Kupiansk district. “People are already in critical circumstances, but, unfortunately, it is becoming more difficult to carry out evacuation missions with each passing day,” he said.He added, “As far as we know, there are no children in Kupiansk today. Some children remain in villages across the Kupiansk district, and some families are hiding children for personal reasons, but we are not currently recording such cases in Kupiansk.”Nikolaienko also noted that the situation in this part of the Kharkiv region “is very similar to the situation in the Kramatorsk agglomeration.” He explained, “The Izyum-Slovyansk highway is not fully controlled and is heavily monitored by FPV drones. The same applies to the Chuhuiv-Kupiansk highway. Directly from the village of Shevchenkove to Kupiansk, the security situation does not allow evacuation by vehicles without electronic warfare equipment.”Evacuation missions, when possible, are usually conducted either early in the morning — during the so-called gray hours — or at night. Nikolaienko added, “Last week, evacuation crews were fired upon directly on the road and were also targeted by Russian FPV drones.”
