Ukrainian foreign minister reveals number of countries planning to join US weapons purchases for Ukraine

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha has revealed how many more countries intend to join NATO's Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List (PURL) initiative for the purchase of US weapons for Ukraine.

Details : On 13 October, Sybiha stated that seven more countries are planning to join the NATO initiative known as PURL.
"Today, we have six countries that have contributed specific amounts to fund and continue the programme. As of now, we can speak of the intention of another seven countries to join as participants with specific contributions to this programme," the Ukrainian foreign minister said.
Background :
- European countries purchase American weapons for Ukraine under the PURL programme, developed by US President Donald Trump and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte in July.
- So far, US$2 billion worth of weapons have been financed, and President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he hopes for monthly deliveries worth US$1 billion.
- Ukraine stated that it is particularly relying on the United States for the supply of critical air defence systems and long-range missiles amid intensified Russian attacks on Ukraine.
