Political scientist Yaroslav Teleshun shared his opinions on Espreso TV.“I agree that indeed these two pieces of information regarding intelligence and the possibility of providing weapons, and so on, are truly tools of pressure on the Kremlin. The only thing I would approach slightly differently is not only from the logic of his positions and Trump’s approach to conducting foreign or domestic policy, but I would also say that circumstances themselves, in some way, pressure him. First of all, it must be understood that President Trump himself is a certain result of the socio-economic and political development of the United States. And accordingly, when he makes certain statements, he primarily acts in a way that will appeal to his electorate, in general, the MAGA group. And actually, if we talk about the MAGA group — that is, the electorate that supported Donald Trump — they advocate fairly decisive and resolute actions,” he said.Yaroslav Teleshun believes that as long as there was an opportunity to postpone and not implement certain actions, Donald Trump tried to stretch them over time.“When the issue of adopting the United States budget arose, along with the potential government shutdown, we understand the situation, the pressure that exists, plus the desire to refocus the domestic audience’s attention from internal issues. This has always been a key cornerstone of Donald Trump’s rhetoric, which appealed to his electorate. He will now try to demonstrate results, particularly in foreign policy. Therefore, the change in this rhetoric is not so much a desire to support Ukraine, or that he has defined a position regarding Ukraine and Russia, as it is a desire to preserve his support in American society. And again, this is done not because he wanted it, but because of pressure. And we understand that in this case, all these statements about new missiles, and so on, we understand that this will not be a game-changer in the situation itself. We have gone through these same stages when Ukraine was provided with HIMARS, F-16s, and so on. And each time, a picture is created that now the situation will radically change. No, we understand that this is a symbol demonstrating the determination of the United States to support Ukraine. And that is extremely important for us,” he noted. The political scientist emphasized that Donald Trump, besides being a phenomenon, is also a result of the internal agenda of the United States.“I absolutely agree that this is a tool of pressure, the only thing is that I would slightly refer to the fact that Donald Trump, on the one hand, is indeed a phenomenon. And recently I discussed with colleagues from the University of Alberta that he is also a result of the internal agenda of the United States itself. And what seems to us to be some illogical step is absolutely logical from the perspective of what is happening in the U.S. The only thing is that we usually focus only on high-level processes and don’t see what happens internally. And these internal processes, as a rule, are often decisive for the behavior and actions of the current U.S. administration,” Yaroslav Teleshun added.
