This opinion was expressed on Espreso TV by renowned American diplomat Michael Carpenter, who previously served as U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Affairs and U.S. Ambassador to the OSCE (2021–2024), in an interview with Anton Borkovskyi, host of the program Studio West."Well, you have to look at the various types of assistance that have been considered and provided to Ukraine so far. Frankly, there hasn’t been a single dollar of military assistance given to Ukraine by the Trump administration. So I don’t know why anyone would expect that the administration would be willing to provide an advanced capability like Tomahawk missiles to partners in Kyiv when, so far, it hasn’t provided any capabilities at all," the diplomat commented. In his opinion, the Ukrainian side is undoubtedly very interested in obtaining Tomahawk missiles, as they could partially level the playing field on the battlefield. Russia is using long-range missiles against Ukraine, while Ukraine does not have the means to strike back at Russian territory with comparable range."The Tomahawk would help level that imbalance, and from Ukrainian territory, it could reach Moscow, which is a significant factor. That’s why I think there has been such a strong negative reaction from Russian leaders. But I have to say, I am not optimistic that the Trump administration would approve either the sale or the transfer of this capability to Ukrainian partners," Carpenter concluded. On October 6, Donald Trump announced that he had allegedly approved the supply of Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine, a move Putin’s press secretary Dmitry Peskov described as “a serious escalation.”
