Energy expert at the Ukrainian Institute for the Future and chairman of the Renewable Energy Association Council Stanislav Ihnatiev spoke about this on Espreso TV.“Currently, the enemy is trying to cut off power to the left-bank part of Ukraine. Last summer, there was a similar situation when the occupiers briefly caused a local blackout in the left-bank region. And it’s happening again now,” Ihnatiev noted.According to the head of the Renewable Energy Association Council, the Russian aggressor was not targeting large power generation facilities but striking transmission and distribution infrastructure. In other words, we can generate electricity, but transferring it between regions and distributing it is a major problem.“As a result, emergency schedules limiting electricity for residential and industrial consumers have already been implemented in Kyiv, the metro is operating intermittently, and there are problems with water supply. At the same time, rolling blackouts are in effect in Sumy and Chernihiv regions due to electricity shortages, and similar schedules have been introduced in Kharkiv and Kharkiv Oblast,” Ihnatiev noted. An energy expert from the Ukrainian Institute for the Future added that Russia has also attempted to strike hydropower facilities.“Currently, vehicle traffic has been blocked across the dams of two power plants — the DniproHES and another plant located further downstream near Kyiv. Hits have also been recorded on other infrastructure in Dnipro and Zaporizhzhia regions. In other words, this strike was aimed solely at cutting off power to left-bank Ukraine,” Ihnatiev concluded. On Thursday evening, October 9, the Russian army launched attack drones against Ukraine. The strike targeted the energy infrastructure, leaving parts of Kyiv without power; there are injured, and a child died in hospital in ZaporizhzhiaOn Friday, October 10, power outages were reported due to the consequences of Russian strikes. The situation is most severe in Kyiv city and the Kyiv, Kharkiv, Sumy, Poltava, and Chernihiv regions.
