EU sees no threat to Ukraine ammunition supply despite Babiš's election victory in Czechia
The European Commission does not believe that the victory of Andrej Babiš's ANO party in the Czech parliamentary elections will negatively affect the implementation of the initiative by EU chief diplomat Kaja Kallas to deliver 2 million artillery shells to Ukraine by the end of 2025. Source: Anitta Hipper, Lead Spokeswoman for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, on 6 October, as reported by European Pravda Details: The EU does not think that Babiš's election victory in Czechia will affect the implementation of Kallas's initiative to supply Ukraine with 2 million rounds of ammunition in 2025. Advertisement: Quote: "The High Representative is in touch with all member states in this regard because the plan is to support the member states and to call on them to step up their support for Ukraine and in buying ammunition." More details: Hipper said that, regarding Kaja Kallas's initiative to provide Ukraine with 2 million rounds, they have currently reached approximately 80% of the planned figure. "We'll have also a meeting on Foreign Affairs Council on defence next week on Wednesday 15 October so this will be an opportunity to continue the exchange," the spokesperson said. Background: European Pravda reported that a month ago Kaja Kallas said EU countries intended to reserve 2 million artillery shells for Ukraine by October, and that participating states had already identified 80% of the promised amount. Czech President Petr Pavel, for his part, said that the Czechs had already begun preparing ammunition deliveries to Ukraine for 2026. Support Ukrainska Pravda on Patreon!
