International affairs expert Giorgi Inalishvili spoke about the situation on Espreso TV.“The situation remains as it has been. For more than 300 days, people have been protesting not only in Tbilisi but in various cities across Georgia. The day before yesterday, local government elections were held, which most of the opposition and much of society boycotted. After that, a massive rally took place, with over 100,000–150,000 people gathering in central Tbilisi. There was an attempt to storm the presidential palace, but it failed. Five main organizers were detained, and yesterday people gathered again in central Tbilisi to protest the current government. Currently, the situation is calm, with no clashes between protesters and police,” he said.Inalishvili noted that protesters are ready to continue their rallies as long as needed to achieve their goals.“As we all saw, the day before yesterday there were clashes between protesters, special forces, and police, which ended that day with the detention of five organizers. The Georgian Dream government claimed it was an attempted coup and warned that future protests would be treated as a continuation of this ‘unlawful’ protest. Despite these statements, people gathered again near the parliament yesterday in a completely peaceful protest. For over 300 days, they have blocked the main avenue in Tbilisi, and they are prepared to continue for weeks and months until their goals are achieved,” the international affairs expert said.On the evening of Saturday, October 4, following the conclusion of local elections, opposition supporters attempted to storm the Orbeliani Palace, the residence of the president.
