Andriy Yermak, President Zelenskyy’s chief of staff, announced this on his social media.Yermak said that proposals submitted by Ukraine last year to sanction Russia’s oil fleet could serve as the basis for new EU measures. According to EUObserver, at least 16 unflagged vessels could be stopped under Article 110 of the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea.“In its new 19th sanctions package, the EU plans to add another 120 oil tankers from Russia’s shadow fleet, expanding its “blacklist” to 568 vessels. Some of them no longer formally enter EU ports but continue to use the Baltic Sea for transportation,” Yermak noted. He emphasized that using international law in combination with NATO’s readiness to enforce it sends a clear message to Moscow: attempts to evade sanctions will not succeed.“It is essential to further limit Russia’s capabilities — Moscow is already waging a hybrid war against Europe, and in this context, speed matters greatly,” Yermak said.France has opened a case against the tanker Boracay, anchored near Saint-Nazaire. The vessel, previously sanctioned in February for belonging to the Russian shadow fleet, is suspected of involvement in recent drone flights over Denmark.
