Petras Auštrevičius, the Lithuanian politician and Member of the European Parliament, stated this on Espreso TV."We had the opportunity to observe the official event, the Zapad-2025 military exercises, which are aggressive and aimed against the West. But I do not believe that these exercises will simply stop. After all, similar methods have been developed over the years and are tools used by Belarus, Russia, and perhaps some other participants. That is, they will remain on high alert, especially from the point of view of Russia's military doctrine, and will be used against the West on a regular basis," the politician commented.According to him, Lithuania is now building fortifications, and the possibility of laying mines at certain distances is also being considered."Such security measures are absolutely necessary, and they will continue. Lithuania will send 1 billion euros over the next 5 years to fortify our eastern border with Kaliningrad. Although there are other opinions from NATO countries that do not feel the threat coming from the east. We must emphasize that we will be the first to take the blow if such a threat arises. Therefore, we are increasing defense spending to 5% of GDP. However, the further west you go, the less countries invest in defense. We have to do everything on time. We need to maintain unity and make joint efforts at the right time," Auštrevičius summarized. On September 12, the Ministry of Defense of Belarus announced the start of the joint strategic exercise with the Russian Federation, Zapad-2025.During the Zapad-2025 exercises, Belarusians and Russians conducted training using the Oreshnik missile system, drones, and the latest combat tactics.
