Petras Auštrevičius, the Lithuanian politician and Member of the European Parliament, stated this on Espreso TV."There are certain EU member states—the Baltic countries, Finland, and Poland—that have refused to issue visas to Russians, and this is a very correct decision. But at the same time, there are 22 members of the European Union that are willing to issue visas to Russian citizens for various purposes. For example, there is an opinion that granting tourist visas to Russians gives them the opportunity to see Europe and change their worldview, and thus they will turn against Putin. But I will say that we often see how Russian tourists behave, sometimes walking around in T-shirts with images of Putin or the Russian flag," the politician noted. In his opinion, the possibility for Russians to obtain visas to EU countries should be reduced as much as possible. An exception could be for visiting relatives or something similar, meaning there should be exceptional circumstances."Such a decision must be made in solidarity with all EU members. Russia is an aggressor, we know this, so there should be no perception that there could be any other reason for issuing visas to citizens of the Russian Federation. We are in a situation where it is clear what the right measures are, so I hope for greater solidarity and common sense among our friends and partners, especially regarding the 19th sanctions package and the restriction of visas for Russians," Auštrevičius summarized.Germany has tightened visa rules for Russian citizens and is demanding that Schengen Area countries adhere to uniform rules in this regard, in accordance with EU guidelines.
