Ukrainian politician and diplomat Roman Bezsmertnyi said this in an interview with Studio West program host Antin Borkovskyi on Espreso TV.“Regarding the conclusion of an agreement on a temporary or long-term ceasefire, freezing the front line, in my view, this fundamentally does not matter. What is fundamentally important is the radical strengthening of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, essentially what is described in point three of the security guarantees – that is where the focus should be. And what is often overlooked? That this component can be implemented before any ceasefire, pause, or breather – call it whatever you like. It does not, in principle, hinder this process,” Bezsmertnyi noted.According to him, the article by Anders Fogh Rasmussen (Danish politician, former NATO Secretary General), published in the Financial Times, raised some issues. For example, the topic of building an army according to the “porcupine concept” – why not do it now? Why wait for certain decisions from the negotiation group – it can be done. And the summit that recently took place in Copenhagen clearly showed why continue talking about this topic when you can simply build factories, increase production, supply the Ukrainian army, and strengthen logistics and infrastructure components to significantly reinforce Ukraine?“Under these conditions, the next issue that may arise is the creation and redeployment of a contingent on Ukrainian territory. Rasmussen is absolutely correct – why not now prepare such a contingent and deploy it in Romania, Bulgaria, Poland, and the Baltic states so it can be quickly moved into Ukraine later? That is possible, so why not do it now, given the dangers, including for these countries? And what about the fact that, in the current situation, Nawrocki is asking Donald Trump to increase the number of American troops in Poland? Shouldn’t efforts in this regard also be undertaken by other European states? They probably should,” the diplomat emphasized. On September 5, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy told the Ambrosetti Forum that Ukraine is building a security system to push Russia toward peace.
